 Standards Alignment & Documentation

Artbx Curriculum Aligns with National & State Art Standards

Standards-Aligned by Design

ArtBx is a K–6 visual arts curriculum intentionally designed to align with national and state visual arts standards. Every lesson supports authentic artmaking by engaging students in creating, presenting, responding, and connecting, ensuring instruction meets curriculum expectations while remaining developmentally appropriate and engaging.

ArtBx is built to support district adoption, pilot programs, and multi-campus implementation.

National and State Standards Alignment

Artbx is aligned to the National Core Arts Standards (NCAS) for Visual Arts, which serve as the foundation for instruction across the curriculum. Each lesson is intentionally mapped to the four artistic processes--Create, Present, Respond, and Connect—to ensure students engage in comprehensive, standards-based visual arts learning.

Because many states base their visual and performing arts standards on the National Core Arts Standards framework, Artbx naturally aligns with the visual arts standards adopted in numerous states.

How Standards Alignment Works in Artbx

Standards alignment in Artbx is intentional and lesson-level, not just unit-level.
  • Each lesson is mapped to Create, Present, Respond, and Connect
  • Students engage in both artmaking and reflection
  • Lessons incorporate cultural, historical, and cross-disciplinary connections
  • Alignment language is written for district curriculum and instruction review
This structure ensures consistent, standards-based instruction across grade levels while allowing teachers flexibility in pacing and materials.

Curriculum Overview

ArtBx includes a complete set of K–6 curriculum planning documents, including a Scope & Sequence and Curriculum Map, to support district review and school implementation. Together, these resources organize every lesson into a clear, developmentally appropriate progression across grade bands (K–1, 2–3, 4–6).

Lessons are grouped into instructional strands such as studio practice, elements of art, principles of design, artists & movements, culture & traditions, and interdisciplinary connections. This structure provides administrators and teachers with a high-level instructional roadmap while maintaining flexibility for local scheduling, pacing, and program needs.

Each lesson includes an estimated time range and alignment to the National Core Arts Standards strands (VA:Cr, VA:Pr, VA:Re, VA:Cn), supporting curriculum planning, implementation, and internal documentation. View our curriculum documents to learn more:
